From Santiago De Chile to Torres Del Paine and back. Chile and Argentina motorcycle adventure.

map-or-argentina-and-chie If you love motorcycles like I do, then you may often have a strong desire to get on your bike and head off on an adventure to the unknown.

On unplanned trips like my one to Patagonia in December 2015, you never know what’s around the corner, what will happen, where will you sleep or who you will meet. This uncertainty is thrilling, especially because it’s so different from the comfort of everyday life where everything is usually well planned and scheduled.

But for some reason, even though it can seem a bit nerve-wracking not to have a plan for each day, everything works out. It’s unbelievable how many great people you meet on the way and how you always have a roof over your head for the night. So although you might be travelling on your own, you are never on your own.

As someone once said “speed is the enemy of contemplation”….and riding a motorbike without hurry can definitely give you plenty of time for thought and self-reflection. But at other times, when the adrenaline is flowing, and you’re itching to explore, feel, breath and absorb the spectacular views, it’s tempting to go just that little bit faster 

Either way, motorcycle adventures can be full of excitement and a fantastic opportunity to learn a bit more about yourself. I call my trip an “escape”, and even though I wasn’t escaping anything in particular, I often have a feeling that there is more to life on this planet than 9-5 jobs and mortgages.

Although I met many amazing, generous and helpful people on my way, on this trip I did something unusual for me and took photos mainly of the landscapes. As part of my job, (being a wedding photographer) I tell the stories of couples on their wedding day, but this time there are no people – instead I only tell the story of Patagonia – the beauty of the landscape, the skies, the colours, the mountains and the rivers. It really is a spectacular place.

In January 2017 I will be escaping to South America again and look forward to sharing the story of another trip with you.

The entire trip was around 8000 Km, starting and finishing in Santiago De Chile.

I started from the capital city of Chile travelled down to Torres del Paine and back through both Chile and Argentina. Passing via Los Angeles, Osorno, then Ruta 40 down to San Carlos de Bariloche, El Bolson, Esquel, Rio Mayo, Bajo Caracoles, Gobernador Gregores, La Leona, Estancia Tapi Aike, Rio Turbio, Puerto Natales and finally Torres Del Paine and on away back via El Calafate, El Chalten (Cerro Torre and Fitz Roy), Perito Moreno, Chile Chico, Puerto Guadal, Cochrane, Puerto Rio Tranquilo, Coyhaique, Puyuhuapi, Futalefu, Villa La Angostura, Junin de los Andes, Pucon and back to Santiago De Chile.

All photos were taken on a Canon 5d MK3 with a 28mm F1.8 Lens (except one that was taken with 16-35 F2.8 lens – lets see if you can guess which one?) and processed in Lightroom.
